Simmah and a couple of others have asked me to report on how Windows 7 has been holding up with WAR. So far it has been very stable and noticeably faster than Vista. In an Inevitable City instance where many others were complaining of lag I experienced almost no slow down in frame rate or other laggy performance issues. This might also be in part due to my reinstalling WAR along with Win7 on a Solid-State Drive; my old HD was beginning to make the death rattles, so I moved to the SSD and I'm never looking back! Oh, and going from 4 to 8 GB of RAM probably didn't hurt either. (BTW FYI: Installing the 64-bit version of Win7 required the new drive, upgrading from Vista 32-bit to Windows 7 64-bit will not work.) So far no Crash to Desktop or other stability issues have cropped up either.
The only complaint I have about the new OS is the oldest complaint about any new OS: not all of my stuff has drivers yet. Specifically my headphone/mic is lacking a Win7 driver, so I'm back to listening only on Vent for right now. Almost everything else that I've installed so far though has been recognized and automatically installed with little or no effort. Resetting my UI has taken me awhile (and it's still not 100%), but it has been worth it for the performance increase.
So in my book Windows 7 is a good upgrade. Smaller system/resources footprint than Vista and it's optimized for my new SSD, and allowed me to finally break past the 4 Gb RAM bottleneck. WAR runs great, very stable and very fast, even in the most demanding circumstances.
